All rice cookers are slightly different but they have many points in common. Below is a picture of my Japanese rice cooker buttons. I have a Zojirushi NP-GD05 machine that I purchased in Japan. You can use use this to get a better idea of how to use a genuine Japanese rice cooker. My rice cooker is very similar but not exactly the same as the Zojirushi NP-GBC05 that is sold in America.
The picture below was taken at 8.54am on a Saturday morning. It is a beautiful day in the Land of the Rising Sun which is why you can see my reflection!
The main option that I use is White/Mixed. This is best for making seasoned rice dishes. So when I put in meat, vegetables and so on, this is the setting I use. There is also a Mixed rice setting which is kind of confusing. This is for mixed rice grains. I do not use this setting much at all.
This Japanese rice cooker does not have a Sushi rice setting. This is actually a difference from the Zojirushi NP-GBC05 machine.
